Quote of the week...

"If my enterprise did not interact with other enterprises, then faster version numbers (be they major or minor changes) can be coped with. The problem is that we interact with other enterprises. My ADP timecard program still doesn't support Firefox 4. My Cisco Scan Safe proxy service *just* announced support for Firefox 4. My AT&T online trouble-ticket software is browser based, as is my internal Numara Track It trouble-ticket software. My customers (judges) are required by the state to use a browser based application for calculating child support rulings. All of these things have to work with my browser, and if one of my partners decides that Firefox 5 isn't supported while Mozilla isn't supporting Firefox 4, then I have a problem that drives me back to Internet Explorer." - rtobyr, slashdot comment

Hello. You've stumbled upon the personal website of Ben Hall.  Besides being a Systems Specialist in the School of Computing at Queen's, I am the current president of the Kingston Jazz Society, part of the Williamsville Neighbourhood association, a proud Kingstonian, and a very part-time web developer.

As the domain name suggests, my site began as a very Linux-centric place. Since its inception in 1999, my site has grown to include many other things that I find interesting. In addition to a few software projects, I've got a fairly extensive photo gallery, RIAA/MPAA rants and reviews for hardware and software that I have used over the years. I started playing the bass a while ago and have added a music section as well.

Sad to say, these days this site doesn't change too much.  I spend more of my time trying to encourage jazz in Kingston.  I do still post occasionally.  For quick things, I'm more likely to use a WordPress blog these days.
