This is Mandrake 7.1 running 2 - count 'em 2 - VMWare sessions along with XMMS (like WinAmp) playing tunes over an NFS drive. I'm also running Mozilla, Opera, a few xterms and The Gimp. All of this is running locally on my dual 466 w/ 256MB RAM.

FWIW, the strain on the system (running a Mandrake 7.2 install in one VMware windows and NT4 in another - each stealing 80MB RAM) was a little much, X got pretty slow. However, the MP3's didn't skip once, and Linux kept on chugin'.

I've been reading up a lot on Mac OS X, and I decided to strain my system in a way similar to the OSX test on anadtech. My (rather modest) PC was easily up to the job. Cool.

This is KDE2 Beta 5 running under FreeBSD. I've also got a copy of VMWare for Linux runnnig under BSD via the Linux emulation layer.

I'm also running KWord - the word processor from the KDE Office suite, Evolution 0.5 - an Outlook-like PIM for Gnome KDE's Control Panel and web browser. I have to say that KDE's web browser, Konqueror, is a fine piece of code. I'm using it for almost all of my daily browsing now.

Gnome 1.2 with Sawfish WindowManager running under FreeBSD 4.1-RELEASE.

Here, I'm running Netscape 4.73 and AbiWord while burning a cd of CorelLinux 1.2 and lsitening to some tunes.

XFCE running the following:
  • VMWare running NT w/ Excel
  • XEmacs (In VI mode) editing a C File and an HTML page
  • J-Pilot (PalmPilot syncing tool)
  • PMail (Nice IMAP PythonGTK Mail Program
  • Netscape
  • Grip (CD Ripper/encoder)
  • GToaster CDR Software
  • The Gimp (taking the screenshot AND having a 2MB JPG open)
  • XMMS MP3 Player playing one of my Bela Fleck albums
  • XOSview showing CPU usage (it spiked when I took the screenshot, it was around 38%/processor)
  • Gnumeric Spreadsheet
  • AbiWord Word Processor
  • Some others I forgot...
Ain't Linux cool?

XFCE looking all cool and blue w/ a lot of stuff running.

Enlightenment w/KFM and some GTK apps

BlackBox running a bunch of apps
